About the Team
The Financial Regulation team is one of the largest and most respected practices of its kind in the UK, bringing together specialist lawyers and regulatory experts who advise clients across the full spectrum of financial services regulation.
This role sits within the firm's highly regarded Regulated Banking & Payments practice, which advises a broad range of clients including clearing banks, challenger banks, building societies, e-money institutions, payment service providers, consumer finance businesses, fintech companies, technology businesses and other regulated firms.
The team is particularly recognised for its expertise in consumer finance, payments regulation and the regulatory implications of emerging technologies. Lawyers regularly advise on the implementation of new regulatory regimes, product launches, FCA requirements, digital transformation projects and innovative financial services propositions.
Working closely with highly regarded partners and senior lawyers, you will join a collaborative team that combines technical excellence with a genuinely supportive and developmental culture.
The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for an Banking solicitor with 1+ years PQE to join a growing and strategically important practice at the forefront of developments within financial regulation and payments.
You will advise clients on a broad range of non-contentious regulatory matters affecting retail financial services businesses, including consumer credit, mortgages, payment services, deposit-taking and wider banking regulation.
The role offers exposure to a wide variety of work, including:
- Advising on the regulatory treatment of payment products, banking propositions and consumer finance arrangements.
- Supporting clients with the implementation of new legislation, regulatory change projects and compliance frameworks.
- Drafting and reviewing customer-facing documentation, terms and conditions and regulated product documentation.
- Advising on FCA requirements, authorisation applications and ongoing regulatory obligations.
- Supporting clients as they develop and launch innovative products involving areas such as Open Banking, Smart Data, AI, digital assets and emerging payment technologies.
- Conducting regulatory reviews, compliance audits and promotional sign-off exercises.
- Working closely with corporate, commercial, technology and banking teams on complex transactions and product launches.
You will benefit from significant client exposure from an early stage and will be encouraged to take ownership of matters, develop client relationships and become actively involved in business development initiatives.
The team also offers opportunities for client secondments, providing valuable commercial exposure and further enhancing your technical expertise.
Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with at least 1 year PQE.
- Experience advising on financial services regulation, banking regulation, consumer finance and/or payments matters.
- Knowledge of areas such as payment services, consumer credit, mortgages, FCA regulation or broader retail financial services regulation.
- A genuine interest in the evolving financial services, fintech and payments landscape.
- Strong technical and analytical skills with the ability to provide pragmatic, commercially focused advice.
- Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
- A collaborative approach and enthusiasm for business development.
