The Role

You will join a growing national Environmental team led by a highly regarded Head of Department who spent nearly two decades building and leading an Environmental practice at a leading international firm. This is a strategic hire designed to expand the practice, particularly across energy related environmental work.

The role is genuinely broad. On the contentious side you will advise on Environment Agency investigations, regulatory prosecutions, interviews under caution and environmental regulatory breaches. On the advisory side you will support corporate transactions and redevelopments, advise on ESG and sustainability matters, work across energy and infrastructure projects, and handle waste and recycling instructions for a strong consumer client base.

The team also carries out specialist nuclear regulatory work, including advising on the decommissioning of nuclear sites across the UK, offering exposure that is genuinely rare at this level.

The work split varies depending on workflow and market conditions, reflecting the dynamic nature of environmental law, and the team is equally open to candidates with a contentious or non-contentious background who can flex across both.

The Ideal Candidate

• A pure Environmental lawyer with 4+ years PQE (flexible upwards)
• A mixed contentious and non-contentious background, or strength on one side with the ability to flex
• Motivated and driven to develop professionally within a growing national practice
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues alike
