Residential Property Legal Director | 7+ PQE | Gloucester
A residential conveyancing practice in Gloucester is recruiting a Legal Director to lead the technical development of its transactional team and shape the next phase of growth.
This is a senior role with genuine strategic input, technical authority and the opportunity to build a career-defining platform in residential property law. Over the next few years, someone joining now will go from leading technical conveyancing work to shaping how the firm operates, developing the next generation of lawyers and becoming a recognized name in the sector.
The Role
- Act as the firm's senior technical authority on residential conveyancing matters
- Lead a team of qualified and qualifying lawyers, providing strategic oversight, performance development and career support
- Design and deliver a clear technical development pathway for lawyers, raising capability across the business
- Transform quality assurance systems, embedding a culture of continuous improvement through structured peer review, coaching and knowledge-sharing
- Represent the firm at key industry events and sit on trade body working groups
- Partner with Business Development to expand sale and purchase work
- Collaborate with IT to evolve the case management system to better support operational delivery and client experience
- Maintain a complex caseload of residential conveyancing matters
The Work
The caseload is residential conveyancing across the full range: sales, purchases, remortgages, leasehold and lease extension work, SDLT requirements (including relevant reliefs and exemptions), and dealing with unregistered properties.
As the practice continues to expand, this role becomes the engine of technical quality, team development and strategic direction, with clear influence over how the firm operates and grows.
The Platform
The firm is award-winning and well-regarded, with a modern, relaxed culture that emphasizes internal promotion, team responsibility and professional development. The environment is non-traditional, with an open-door management style and a family-like atmosphere that contrasts with stuffier law firms.
Why This Makes Sense
This is a role for a senior associate or legal director looking to take the step up into leadership, technical authority and strategic influence. The platform is there, the growth is real, and the opportunity to shape the practice is immediate.
The culture prioritizes internal promotion, professional development and hard work leading to quick advancement. The firm invests in its people, with clear career pathways, study support and a management style that values responsibility and initiative.
