Public Sector Procurement Solicitor | 2+ PQE | Manchester
A market-leading government and public sector practice is recruiting in Manchester, and the opportunity is significant for anyone looking to build deep expertise in public procurement, subsidy control and public law at a time when the sector is undergoing significant regulatory change.
Over the next few years, someone joining now will go from advising on public procurement and governance matters to leading strategic procurements, managing client relationships and becoming a recognised specialist in public sector law as the Procurement Act 2023 reshapes the landscape.
The Role
- Advise public sector bodies on public law and commercial issues including governance, vires/powers and procurement compliance
- Deliver technically precise, commercially focused advice to clients with excellent service standards
- Line manage and support junior members of the team
- Build working relationships internally and externally to maintain key client relationships and develop business networks
- Work across central government, devolved and regional government, local authorities and public sector suppliers
The Work
The caseload is public procurement and public law: advising on Procurement Act 2023 compliance, procurement strategy, governance and vires/powers for central and local government, procurement challenges and disputes, subsidy control and commercial issues affecting public sector bodies.
The client base is strong and varied: central government authorities, mayoral combined authorities, local authorities, R&D institutions, education and health bodies, police authorities, charities and key suppliers engaging with the public sector.
As the practice continues to grow and expand its public sector disputes capability, early-stage responsibility becomes leading strategic procurements, managing contentious matters and contributing to the team's profile and client development.
The Platform
The government and public sector practice is on key public sector frameworks and has a market-leading reputation for quality, particularly in subsidy control and public procurement. The team works on major infrastructure, utilities and government-facing matters with high impact and technical complexity.
Why This Makes Sense
The team's platform gives breadth of experience across advisory, contentious and knowledge-led work, with exposure to strategic, high-value procurements and the chance to work on matters that shape public sector delivery and infrastructure.
The base is Manchester with hybrid flexibility, and the culture prioritizes development, collaboration and inclusion.
