Leading Mid-Sized Firm | Private Client Partner | Manchester

A rare opportunity to establish and lead the Manchester private client offering of a well-regarded, full-service UK firm, building on an existing London-based team and a strong flow of HNW and international work.

The Firm
This is a long-established, mid-sized UK law firm with offices across the South East, North West, and South West, plus a well-developed international desk serving clients across multiple jurisdictions. The firm advises medium to large companies, financial institutions, governments, and a significant number of high-net-worth individuals and families, many with cross-border interests. It is recognised by Legal 500 across several practice areas and has a reputation for being professional, responsive, and commercially sharp.

Culturally, the firm is ambitious yet grounded. It promotes from within, invests in its people, and values collaboration across practice groups. Diversity and inclusion are embedded, and the firm describes its approach as progressive and people-focused. Recent investment in the Manchester office and a strategic commitment to private client growth make this a platform-building role.

The Team
The private client team is based in London, led by an experienced partner, and handles the full range of personal tax, trusts, probate, and estate planning matters. The team is ranked by Legal 500 and acts for HNW and internationally mobile families, business owners, and trustees. It benefits from a steady stream of referrals from the firm's highly rated family, property, and corporate teams, and frequently advises on matters involving multi-jurisdictional assets, cross-border succession, and complex trust structures.

The firm now wants to replicate this success in Manchester, where its existing office and wider practice groups offer a ready-made client base and infrastructure.

The Role
You will be the founding partner for private client in Manchester. You will build and lead the practice, establishing a credible local presence while working closely with the London team on shared clients and cross-referrals. You will handle a high-quality caseload of wills, trusts, probate, tax planning, lasting powers of attorney, and estate administration, with a particular focus on work involving international elements or significant family wealth.

This is not a backfill; it is a strategic growth hire. You will have the autonomy to shape the practice, develop client relationships, and recruit a team over time. The firm expects that you will also contribute to business development, raise the profile of the Manchester office, and play a visible leadership role within the firm.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experienced private client solicitor (England & Wales) with sufficient PQE and profile to step into a partnership role or an established Partner seeking a new challenge
  • Strong technical grounding across all core private client areas, with STEP qualification highly desirable
  • A portable practice or demonstrable ability to generate work and build a client following in the North West
  • Experience advising HNW and internationally connected clients; familiarity with cross-border estates, trusts, and tax planning is an advantage
  • An entrepreneurial, commercially minded approach, combined with the empathy and communication skills essential to private client work
  • Ambition to lead, grow a team, and collaborate with wider firm practice areas

What's on Offer

  • A unique opportunity to build and lead a private client practice within an established Manchester office
  • The backing of an existing Legal 500-ranked private client team, cross-referral networks, and strong international connections
  • Genuine autonomy with full support from a commercially successful, full-service firm
  • Clear path to equity and a seat at the leadership table for the right candidate
  • A progressive, inclusive culture that values long-term relationships and professional development
  • Competitive remuneration and benefits, structured to reward growth and contribution
