Pensions Associate | 1+ Years PQE | Birmingham
Birmingham has quietly become one of the firm's most important pensions hubs. The team here advises some of the UK's best-known employers, household names, major public bodies, universities, and charities, on schemes that touch thousands of lives. There is a steady flow of complex, high-quality work coming through the door, and the firm is investing in the people who will grow with it. For a junior pensions lawyer, this is an opportunity to build your career on solid foundations, in a city where the practice is truly going places.
The Birmingham office is an integral part of a national pensions team, but it has its own momentum. The work is varied, the clients are interesting, and the senior lawyers you will learn from are invested in your development. This is not a back-office support role; you will have direct client contact and real responsibility from the start.
The work
You will manage a mixed caseload early on, gaining exposure across both private and public sector schemes. The team's broad client base means your instructions will include:
- Day-to-day employer advisory work for household-name clients across multiple sectors
- Drafting scheme documentation, advising on governance, and managing regulatory matters
- Pensions aspects of outsourcing, restructurings, and corporate transactions
- Public sector scheme work, including LGPS, NHS, Teachers' Pension Scheme, and more
- Defined benefit and defined contribution arrangements, covering a range of industries
About you
You are a solicitor with at least one year's post-qualification experience in pensions law. You have good technical foundations, sound judgement, and a commercial instinct. You are comfortable managing your own matters and enjoy working as part of a collaborative team. You are organised, methodical, and interested in this area of law. You want to build your career in Birmingham, within a firm that values its people and rewards commitment.
What you'll get
- A role in an established Birmingham pensions team with national reach and a diverse client base
- A top 45 UK law firm with a commitment to its people, recognised as a Top Employer for 14 years and ranked in the UK top 10
- Competitive salary and benefits, hybrid working, and structured career development
- The chance to work alongside experienced partners in a firm that values collaboration, fresh thinking, and long-term growth
