A rare opportunity for an Oil & Gas lawyer to join a leading international law firm as a Partner in their rapidly growing Scottish team. This is a real opportunity to develop a lucrative practice with the support and platform of one of the foremost firms internationally.

The Team

  • Market-leading Oil & Gas and wider Energy practice, headquartered in the UK
  • Deep experience across upstream, midstream and gas, LNG, decommissioning, and low‑carbon projects
  • Integrated, cross-border team working closely with corporate, finance, projects, construction, and disputes specialists
  • Well-established client base in the North Sea and internationally, with strong panel positions and strategic relationships
  • Collegiate partnership with a track record of successfully integrating lateral hires

The Role

  • Senior hire at Partner level to strengthen the Oil & Gas offering in Aberdeen
  • Build and lead client relationships across:
  • Upstream and midstream oil & gas
  • Field developments, farm-ins/outs, and JOAs
  • Transportation, processing, and offtake arrangements
  • Decommissioning, regulatory and health & safety issues
  • Energy transition workstreams (CCUS, hydrogen, renewables integration, repurposing of existing assets)

Responsibilities

  • Originating and growing a profitable Oil & Gas/Energy practice centred on the Aberdeen market
  • Leading complex, high-value transactions and projects (often multi-jurisdictional)
  • Collaborating with partners across corporate, finance, projects, and disputes
  • Playing a visible role in the market (speaking, writing, industry groups, client events)
  • Mentoring and developing a growing team of associates in Aberdeen and nationally

The Ideal Candidate

  • Significant experience in Oil & Gas projects, ideally including:
    • Upstream and midstream transactional/project work
    • Joint operating agreements, unitisation, lifting/offtake, TPOS and related infrastructure agreements
    • M&A, farm-outs, and asset portfolio transactions in the sector
  • Regulatory and North Sea regime experience; international experience welcome
  • Existing portable relationships or a credible business case for building a practice
  • Strong profile in the market and a track record of winning and growing client mandates
  • Commercial, collaborative and team-focused, with an interest in supporting energy transition mandates
