Construction & Engineering Associate (Non-Contentious) | Bristol
There's a difference between doing construction work and actually being part of the projects that shape the built environment.
This role sits firmly in the latter.
An expanding Construction & Engineering team is looking to bring in an Associate (circa 2-6 PQE) to support on a steady flow of non-contentious work across development, infrastructure and energy projects throughout the UK. The client base is strong and varied funders, developers, contractors and suppliers meaning you get exposure across the full lifecycle of a deal, not just one slice of it.
The work is hands-on. You'll be running your own matters (with support where needed), advising on standard form contracts including JCT and NEC, and getting involved in the wider commercial aspects of projects from an early stage. It's a good step for someone who wants to move beyond pure execution and start developing real ownership over transactions and client relationships.
There's also a clear expectation that you'll build your profile. That might be through networking, contributing to publications, or getting involved in sector-focused activity whether that's real estate development, energy, infrastructure or adjacent areas. It's not box-ticking; it's about gradually becoming known for something.
Internally, you'll be part of a collaborative team where communication is open and junior lawyers are supported properly. You'll have the opportunity to mentor, but equally you'll be working closely with senior lawyers who are accessible and invested in development.
They're looking for:
- A qualified solicitor in the region of 2-6 PQE
- Solid experience in non-contentious construction work
- Familiarity with JCT and NEC contracts, along with broader construction documentation and due diligence
Someone confident managing their own workload and contributing to transactions with appropriate supervision
A commercially aware individual who can build credibility with clients and manage expectations effectively
The firm itself is a well-established Top 100 with a growing construction offering and a clear direction of travel. There's good quality work, a sensible structure, and a genuine platform to develop both technically and commercially.
If you're in a role where you're getting exposure but not quite enough responsibility, or you're ready to be more involved in the deals rather than just supporting them, this is a strong next step.
