Court of Protection specialists are hard to find. So rather than insisting on a perfect background, this established West Sussex firm is prepared to look at the right senior lawyer with transferable experience and a genuine interest in developing within the area.

The firm is looking for an experienced Court of Protection Solicitor at 6+ PQE to join its friendly and well-established team in Worthing. This is a senior opportunity with responsibility not only for a high-quality caseload, but also for helping manage and develop the wider team.

The Opportunity

You'll handle a varied range of Court of Protection work, including matters such as:

• Deputyship applications and ongoing deputyship work
• Court of Protection applications
• Property and financial affairs matters
• Contentious and litigious COP work
• Wider welfare and vulnerable client matters

You'll also take responsibility for the day-to-day operational management of a small team, supporting junior colleagues and helping shape the continued development of the department.

Transferable Experience Welcomed

The firm understands that dedicated COP experience is relatively niche, so they are open to lawyers coming from adjacent areas, including:

Commercial or Civil Litigators with strong experience of complex disputes, vulnerable clients or litigation involving financial affairs.

Private Client Solicitors / Legal Executives with experience across trusts, estates, elderly clients, tax or vulnerable individuals and an interest in developing their COP expertise.

You don't need to have spent your entire career in Court of Protection work. Technical ability, maturity, client care and the desire to develop in the area are just as important.

About You

• Solicitor or Legal Executive, ideally 6+ PQE
• Strong experience in COP or a closely related area
• Confident managing your own matters with limited supervision
• Excellent client care and communication skills
• Comfortable taking responsibility for colleagues and team development
• Commercial, pragmatic and collaborative in your approach
