Top-rated National Law Firm | Construction Associate | NQ+

Build your career across both contentious and non-contentious construction work in Manchester, joining a strategic built environment practice within a firm consistently recognised as one of the UK's top employers.

The Firm
This is a large UK law firm with a national presence and over 1,600 people. It is a firm built on long-standing client relationships, a practical commercial outlook, and a collaborative culture. It has been recognised as a top employer for nearly two decades, reflecting a sustained commitment to career development, wellbeing, and an inclusive working environment.

The firm's scale and breadth mean lawyers have access to complex, varied work, supported by specialist colleagues across a full range of practice areas. Hybrid working is standard, and investment in learning and development is embedded at every level.

The Team
The construction practice sits within the firm's wider built environment group, a core strategic segment alongside real estate, infrastructure, and insurance. This integrated platform means the team advises on the full lifecycle of projects, from procurement and contract drafting through to dispute resolution. The work spans development, energy, public sector, and infrastructure projects, with clients including developers, contractors, public bodies, and funders.

The Manchester team operates as part of a cohesive national group. You will work alongside lawyers who are technically sharp, commercially minded, and committed to working together to deliver practical, joined-up advice.

The Role
This is a broad, early-career role offering a mix of contentious and non-contentious construction work. On the non-contentious side, you will assist with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating standard form and bespoke construction contracts, appointments, and collateral warranties. On the contentious side, you will support disputes in adjudication, mediation, arbitration, and litigation, including preparing claims, drafting pleadings, and attending hearings.

You will work closely with partners and senior associates, gaining exposure to clients and learning to manage your own matters with appropriate supervision. From day one, you will be encouraged to build relationships, contribute to business development, and take advantage of the firm's structured training and early-career development programmes.
