Associate | Commercial / Life Sciences | Cambridge | 3+ PQE

If you're energised by working at the intersection of cutting-edge science and commercial reality, this role offers exactly that.

A leading UK firm is looking for a commercially minded Associate to join its life sciences focused team in Cambridge. You'll advise everyone from university spin-outs taking their first steps to multinational PLCs navigating complex international agreements.

The Work

This isn't purely transactional. You'll be a trusted adviser on IP strategy, commercial contracts, regulatory challenges, and technology agreements for clients operating at the forefront of scientific research.

Your clients span the spectrum: SMEs, listed companies, research institutes, charities, and early-stage ventures. The work is varied, often international (including US-facing matters), and consistently high quality.

You'll get early client exposure and real responsibility, working closely with businesses that rely on you not just for legal precision but for commercial judgment.

The Role

  • Draft and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements
  • Provide IP, commercial and regulatory advice across the life sciences sector
  • Work on cross-office projects with a nationally recognised team
  • Engage with the life sciences community locally and internationally through networks
  • Business development will be part of the role, supported by strong firm relationships in the sector

The firm takes an active role in tech and life sciences communities and has international connections through specialist networks. You'll have opportunities to engage meaningfully, not just attend events.
You

  • Commercial Solicitor with 3+ years PQE in commercial and IP work
  • Experience advising life sciences clients is a strong advantage
  • Thrives on client-facing work and delivering business-oriented advice
  • Excellent academics and strong commercial instincts
  • Comfortable working autonomously and collaboratively in equal measure

In-house experience can be helpful but isn't required. What matters is that you enjoy close client contact and can operate as a trusted external resource.

What's On Offer

  • Hybrid agile working (up to 50% remote)
  • Flexible working options available from day one or during employment
  • Friendly, collegiate culture in a close-knit Cambridge office
  • Excellent training and genuine career development
  • Work in one of the UK's most dynamic and innovation-driven sectors

If you want to deepen your expertise in life sciences while working with clients who are genuinely pushing boundaries, this is a rare opportunity.
