Clinical Negligence Solicitor | 3+ PQE | Southampton

A long-established regional firm with a genuine reputation for healthcare and clinical negligence work is looking for a 3+ PQE solicitor to join its Southampton team. The firm traces its roots back centuries, but its approach is thoroughly modern: client-focused, technically rigorous, and built around genuine partnership and development.

The clinical negligence practice is a recognised strength, handling complex claims from birth and brain injuries to cancer misdiagnosis, surgical errors, sepsis, and fatal claims. You'll work alongside experienced senior solicitors and partners who have decades of collective expertise and who are genuinely invested in developing the next generation.

What Makes This Different:

This is not a volume claims factory. You will not be chasing portal cases or racing against fixed fees. The team takes on meaningful, often life-changing claims where the legal and human stakes are real.

Your role:

  • Run your own caseload of complex clinical negligence claims with proper supervision and mentorship from experienced solicitors and partners
  • Handle the full lifecycle: initial investigation, medical records analysis, instructing experts, drafting pleadings, negotiating settlements, trial preparation
  • Work alongside specialists in personal injury, healthcare regulatory, and court of protection, your clients get wraparound support, not just a claim
  • Have genuine client contact, building relationships with people at some of the hardest moments of their lives
  • Learn from mentors who genuinely want to develop you, not just extract your labour

This is hands-on clinical negligence work where you'll build real expertise and genuine client relationships.

You

  • 3+ PQE in Clinical Negligence (or strong personal injury background with interest in claimant medical negligence work)
  • Understanding of medical evidence and expert witnesses
  • Able to manage a sensitive caseload independently, knowing when to seek input from senior colleagues
  • Calm, compassionate, professional manner, you can give difficult advice clearly and support clients through uncertain processes
  • Ambitious to develop your technical reputation and contribute to the team's growth
  • Genuinely interested in building a career in clinical negligence, not just filling time

What's On Offer

  • Build genuine expertise in complex clinical negligence work with experienced mentors
  • Work on meaningful, life-changing claims, not volume processing
  • Southampton location with excellent work life balance
  • Culture described as friendly, accessible, collegiate
  • Visible leadership, genuine wellness initiatives, authentic flexibility
  • Big enough to offer variety and cross-referral opportunities; small enough that you're known
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits
  • Clear progression pathway with mentorship and genuine development
  • Access to a team of specialists across personal injury, healthcare regulatory, and court of protection

Why This Works

This firm doesn't treat clinical negligence like a factory. The work is serious. The clients are vulnerable. And the culture reflects that maturity and commitment.

You'll have mentors who've handled thousands of claims and are genuinely interested in passing on expertise. You'll work on cases that make a real difference in people's lives. And you'll do it in a firm that understands that clinical negligence requires not just legal skill, but genuine empathy and human understanding.

Southampton offers quality of life that you won't find in London. And this firm offers the platform to build a lasting, meaningful career in clinical negligence, with experienced support, genuine collaboration, and work that actually matters.

If you're ready to develop serious expertise in clinical negligence, with mentors who'll back you and work that genuinely makes a difference, this is it.
