Agricultural Property Solicitor / Associate (2-4 PQE) | Southampton, Hampshire | Hybrid Working
Not every property role gives you the chance to build genuine specialist expertise.
This opportunity is ideal for a property lawyer who enjoys transactional work but wants to develop a niche that will set them apart. You'll join one of the South's leading Agricultural Property teams, working alongside a highly regarded Senior Associate as you build expertise advising farming families, landed estates and rural businesses on complex property matters.
Whether your background is in Residential Property, Commercial Property or Agricultural Property, what matters most is your ambition to build a long-term career in this specialist sector.
The Opportunity
This is more than a traditional property role.
Alongside a varied caseload of agricultural property transactions, you'll receive full training and mentoring to develop expertise in agricultural partnerships and trusts. Previous experience in these areas isn't expected, only a genuine interest in learning and becoming a recognised specialist over time.
Working closely with an experienced Senior Associate, you'll be supported every step of the way as your responsibilities and technical knowledge grow.
The Work
Your caseload will include a broad range of non-contentious agricultural property matters, including:
- Sales, purchases and transfers of farms, land and rural property
- Transfers between family members, partnerships, companies and trusts
- Property aspects of farming partnerships and LLP agreements
- Estate restructuring and succession planning
- Grazing licences, occupational arrangements and rural land management
- Overage agreements, easements and rights affecting rural land
- SDLT, CGT and IHT-related property matters, working alongside specialist tax advisers where appropriate
The work is varied, technically interesting and centred around building long-term relationships with clients whose businesses often span generations.
About You
You must be a Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with approximately 1-4 years' PQE who have experience in:
- Residential Property
- Commercial Property
- Agricultural Property
Agricultural experience is welcome but certainly not essential.
The technical property work can be taught. What can't be taught is genuine enthusiasm for the sector and the desire to build a long-term career advising rural clients. If you're curious about agriculture, enjoy developing specialist knowledge and want to become known for more than standard transactional property work, this could be an excellent fit.
Why This Role?
The firm's biggest investment isn't finding someone who already knows agricultural law, it's finding someone who wants to become an expert.
You'll be joining a Band 1 ranked Agricultural Property team with a strong reputation for developing its lawyers. Responsibility is delegated early, progression is encouraged, and you'll have the opportunity to carve out your own specialist practice with the support of experienced colleagues.
Few property roles offer the chance to broaden your skillset in such a distinctive way. By combining high-quality transactional work with specialist exposure to partnerships, trusts and rural succession planning, you'll develop expertise that is both highly sought after and difficult to find elsewhere.
