It's worth noting that none of the large international firms in this table separately disclose their Manchester office revenue. DLA Piper, Eversheds Sutherland and Squire Patton Boggs report global figures; Addleshaw Goddard and Pinsent Masons report revenue for their international business (which excludes any US operations); and CMS does not break out UK or Manchester figures at all. This makes direct, like-for-like comparison difficult, and is a key reason why revenue alone is only part of the picture.

How the Market Has Moved Over the Last Financial Year 

Addleshaw Goddard posted its ninth consecutive year of revenue and profit growth, with turnover up 17% to £644m for the year to 30 April 2025 and profit per equity partner reaching £1.1m. The firm employs more than 600 people at its Manchester office on One St Peter's Square. Continued growth contribution towards their well publicised 2030 strategy, led by Managing Partner Andrew Johnson. 

Eversheds Sutherland grew revenue 3% to £768.7m for its international business in the year to 30 April 2025, with net profit up 6% to £185.7m, marking an eighth consecutive year of growth. 

Pinsent Masons increased turnover by 4.7% to £680m over the same period. 

DWF, regionally headquartered in Manchester, reported revenue of £573m for 2024/25. 

Mills & Reeve reported record turnover of £181m for 2024/25, with its North West business, including its Manchester office, seeing turnover growth of 24% and a 70% uplift over the last four years. 

Hill Dickinson recorded turnover of £172.1m for 2024/25, up 18% on the previous year. 

JMW Solicitors achieved a 15% uplift in revenue, with turnover up from £82m in 2023/24 to £94m in the year to 30 April 2025, against a £90m target. 

Brabners reported an eighth consecutive year of growth, with revenue up 11.7% to £60.2m for the year to April 2025, alongside newly established expansion in London City to compliment their core regional practices.

"There's a phrase that often gets used: same door, different name. A lot of firms are perceived to have a different name but offer the same sort of thing, and there might be a difference in nuances, clients and that sort of thing, but they're often perceived to be operating at the same level, doing the same sort of thing. "My advice is: select the key targets that you want to approach and go for, but make sure you give yourself the opportunity to actually compare their offerings properly. Because only then do you become better informed about the market, and you never know what can come up in an interview, in a conversation, something you might not have expected, be it good or bad, which is worth pointing out because you might hear something you didn't want to hear. You might hear something that really piques your interest, and you will only get that information if you actually take the time to compare those options." 

I always say to everyone I speak to: don't waste your time by interviewing with firms that aren't going to be right, because no one's a winner in that situation. However, if you get a chance to shortlist four or five, six, seven firms, however it may be, you can compare the USPs of each and work out what's best for you." 

Even when a job description looks identical across two or three firms, the day-to-day experience, from partner accessibility to how quickly you're given responsibility, can vary enormously. "DWF are a firm that come to mind, particularly when it comes to their Commercial Services offering. They have made recent moves in the market to project themselves more into the ‘elite’ bracket in the Commercial space, whereas previously the firm are more affiliated with insurance related legal services. " Beyond Corporate have recently recruited the head of real estate from a top 50 National Firms, which is an incredible coup, all things considered, because obtaining the head of real estate from a firm like that to head and grow a function is quite exciting.  

And then you've also got businesses like CG, who are based across Liverpool and Manchester. They're a really cool business, the partners are really lovely, and it's an entrepreneurial firm. A lot of the partners there are ex-DLA Piper, and whilst they won't be earning what they were at DLA Piper, I have no doubt they're given the freedom to develop, practise and recruit people." 

“Harrison Drury continue to impress having expanded into the Manchester City Centre market a few  years ago. They have recruited some excellent lawyers housed at Top 30 Internationals offering a more bespoke, yet high quality platform away from international law firm culture which isn’t for everyone.
