Commercial Landlord & Tenant Partner | 7+ PQE | South West London

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an established Commercial Landlord & Tenant Partner to join a well-regarded South West London law firm and take the lead in developing a new Commercial Landlord & Tenant practice.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Commercial Property lawyer with an established and portable client following to build a department from the ground up, with genuine autonomy to shape the offering, develop client relationships and grow the practice within an established boutique firm.

The Firm:

A well-regarded and growing boutique law firm in South West London, known for its friendly, modern and client-focused approach, with a strong and established presence across both private client and business-focused legal services.

The firm has built a loyal client base across South West London, Surrey and further afield, advising individuals, owner-managed businesses, SMEs and larger organisations. Its established practice includes Commercial Property, Employment, Dispute Resolution, Residential Property, Private Client and Company, Commercial & Business Law, providing a broad platform of complementary expertise for its clients.

The firm's business offering already supports clients throughout the business lifecycle, with established relationships across a range of sectors and a strong network of business and private clients.

This provides an excellent platform for an experienced Commercial Landlord & Tenant lawyer to establish and develop a dedicated practice, with opportunities to generate work through the firm's existing client base, professional relationships and complementary teams.

The Role:

This is an excellent opportunity for an established Commercial Landlord & Tenant Partner to take genuine ownership of a new practice area and build it into a successful department within the firm.

The successful candidate will have significant autonomy to shape the direction of the practice, bringing their own established client relationships and using these as the foundation from which to develop a broader Commercial Landlord & Tenant offering.

The role will focus on advising commercial landlords and tenants across the full lifecycle of their property relationships, with matters expected to include:

  • Commercial lease agreements and renewals
  • Lease negotiations and variations
  • Break clauses and termination
  • Lease assignments and associated matters
  • Maintenance and repair obligations
  • Dilapidations and other landlord & tenant issues
  • Lease interpretation and enforcement
  • Landlord & tenant disputes and related dispute resolution

There will be scope to develop the practice in line with your own expertise and client relationships, with the freedom to identify opportunities, build referral networks and shape the department as it grows.

The firm is looking for someone who can bring a secure and portable client following, providing a strong commercial foundation for the new practice from day one. The successful candidate will be expected to leverage their existing relationships while also identifying opportunities to generate new work through the firm's wider client base and professional network.

This would particularly suit a Partner who enjoys the entrepreneurial side of private practice and wants the autonomy to build something of their own, rather than joining an established department with an existing structure and limited scope to shape its direction.

Requirments:

  • 7+ (England & Wales) Solicitor with strong experience across commercial landlord & tenant matters, including lease negotiations, break clauses, termination, maintenance and repair obligations and related disputes.
  • An established and portable client following.
  • Strong client and intermediary relationships, with a proven ability to generate and develop business.
  • The confidence and entrepreneurial mindset to build a new practice area from the ground up.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to provide pragmatic, commercially focused advice.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with a strong focus on client service.
  • The ambition to develop a successful practice and play a key role in the continued growth of the wider firm.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established Commercial Landlord & Tenant Partner to bring their existing practice into a firm where they can have genuine autonomy to build and shape a new department, develop their client base and play a key role in its future direction.
