In-House Legal Counsel - Property

Our client is a residential property investment and development group operating an extensive portfolio of several hundred residential units alongside a completed student accommodation facility. Known for their lean, fast-paced, and entrepreneurial approach.

They are looking for an In-House Legal Counsel to join their team on a full-time basis in North London. This is an opportunity to act as the sole internal legal expert, taking end-to-end ownership across property litigation, residential conveyancing, commercial agreements, and portfolio legal operations while working directly with the business principals.

Responsibilities

• Conveyancing & Contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate residential leases, tenancy agreements, and related property contracts. Manage residential property re-financing, acquisitions, and sales from instruction through to completion, working independently or alongside external solicitors.
• Dispute Resolution & Litigation: Act as lead in-house Solicitor handling small claims and court disputes up to £30,000. Issue Section 8 notices and initiate formal proceedings for non-payment of rent, ground rent, and service charges.
• Tribunals & Complex Disputes: Manage tenant redresses, housing disputes, and First-Tier Tribunal matters. Serve as the primary internal legal contact liaising with and assisting external litigation teams on ongoing or legacy construction disputes.
• Financial Oversight & Recovery: Oversee internal loan account ledgers, issue monthly statements, and handle late payment recovery.
• Operational Legal Support: Draft operational correspondence and liaise directly with surveyors, local authorities, estate agents, utility companies, and lenders.

Your Profile

• You have a broad legal background covering property litigation, conveyancing, or general civil practice.
• You are a confident, self-sufficient professional comfortable operating as a standalone advisor without traditional law firm support structures .
• You are highly adaptable with a practical, commercial approach to problem-solving and excellent numerical accuracy.
• You are proficient across standard office IT suites, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
