The team handles a broad range of criminal defence matters, from police station advice through to Magistrates' and Crown Court proceedings, with a strong focus on client care and high-quality representation.
The Role:
You will manage a varied criminal defence caseload, develop your advocacy experience and work alongside experienced colleagues on complex matters.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing cases from police station advice through to court proceedings and Crown Court preparation.
- Undertaking Magistrates' Court advocacy and supporting Crown Court matters.
- Reviewing evidence, developing case strategies and preparing legal arguments.
- Advising clients through sensitive and challenging situations.
- Drafting persuasive representations, applications and correspondence.
- Working collaboratively while taking ownership of your caseload.
Why This Role?
- Meaningful responsibility: Manage your own caseload and develop your professional judgement.
- Career development: Build your advocacy experience and strengthen your Crown Court expertise.
- Senior-level exposure: Work closely with experienced lawyers, firm leadership and clients.
- Supportive culture: Join a collaborative team that values expertise over hierarchy.
- Long-term progression: Develop your career within an expanding practice.
- Work that matters: Represent clients facing serious allegations and make a tangible difference to their lives.
The Candidate & Benefits:
- You will be a solicitor with 3-5 years' PQE in criminal defence, ideally gained within a reputable private practice firm.
- Police station accreditation (essential).
- Strong Magistrates' Court advocacy experience and practical Crown Court exposure.
- Excellent written communication and analytical skills.
- The ability to manage pressure, complex evidence and competing deadlines.
- A resilient, practical approach and a genuine commitment to client care.
- Experience at a Legal 500-recognised firm or equivalent is desirable. Regulatory experience is an advantage but not essential.
This is an opportunity for a criminal defence solicitor to take on meaningful responsibility, develop their expertise and progress within a supportive, expanding team.
