The Team
The Commercial Disputes group operates as a cohesive national and international team, recognised as one of the leading practices in each of its markets. The team is known for its commercial and innovative approach, combining formal court and arbitral proceedings with all forms of alternative dispute resolution to achieve tailored client outcomes. It works closely with non-contentious colleagues to ensure deep transactional insight, giving it a significant edge when facing magic circle, major City, and US firms.

The Leeds team is an integral part of this practice, handling a broad diet of disputes for major clients. The team is busy, high-performing, and diverse, with a strong sense of collegiality and shared purpose.

The Role
As a junior associate, you will be proactive, agile, and keen to develop your technical skills across a wide range of commercial disputes. You will work closely with senior lawyers on matters that are often complex and cross-border, gaining exposure to sectors such as energy, retail, health, and financial services.

You will be encouraged to think flexibly, including how AI and other tools can enhance service delivery. Client relationship building is central to the role: you will collaborate across practice areas and industry groups, and be supported to start building your own network of contacts. Continuous self-development is a priority, with access to formal training, mentoring, coaching, and leadership programmes from day one.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified solicitor with 1+ PQE in commercial disputes, ideally gained at a reputable private practice
  • Sound technical understanding and strong drafting and communication skills
  • A commercial, pragmatic approach with a genuine interest in delivering creative client solutions
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic, with a collaborative, team-player mindset
  • Keen to engage in business development and build client relationships
  • Interest in innovation and leveraging technology to improve service delivery is valued
