Should I stay or should I go? If you’re asking this about your job, here are some questions to ask yourself:
Are you just reacting to a current situation?
Shouting “I QUIT” and making a dramatic exit only pans out in movies. So sleep on it and see what you think. Don’t rush into quitting without a plan.
What are the advantages of leaving?
Maybe you’ve been offered a position that’s a step up, more money, more flexibility. Perhaps you have a financial buffer so you can quit and search for work.
What are the cons of quitting?
Stepping into a new work culture can be tricky, so find out what you can about what it’s like to work there. Is the job offer a sure thing? Is the company stable? If you have a good reputation where you are, you need to know the new job is worth it. Are you happy right now?
Be honest with yourself about this. Being happy in work might be worth more to your wellbeing than than making a career move just because you think you should.
What was the key factor that helped you to decide to quit your last job? Are you glad you did?
