How is your career development plan going?

The pandemic has pushed this to the back as companies instead focus on crisis management. A new study by Doodle reveals interactions with managers have declined, and with it opportunities for career growth.

So what’s changed?

Well, those casual feedback moments in the office aren’t practical anymore. You can’t simply stop by someone’s desk, or grab a quick chat on a coffee break. So those easy ways of engaging with staff have gone.

50% of the employees in the study said their careers have stalled or even regressed. So there’s a real need for mentorship, especially when a pandemic has had such a dramatic impact on people’s careers. 

How do companies address this?

It’s not enough to simply wait for things to return to the way they were. Organisations need to make mentorship and career development a priority. According to the study, only 18% of firms held regular one-to one video meetings. So start doing this and give your employees a bit of valuable career support during this difficult time.
