Every year, the third Monday in January is known as ‘Blue Monday’ and it’s hard not to be aware of it thanks to the press reminding us at every opportunity that we should all feel miserable throughout this day.
But it originates from a Sky Travel press release in 2004. Psychologist Cliff Arnall came up with a “formula” for the January blues and it’s since become a self-fulfilling prophecy, and one the creator himself now urges us Brits to “refute the whole notion” of.
I say this because I think it’s worth remembering that the whole concept comes from nothing of any scientific value, and therefore it’s well worth making the effort to actually enjoy this Monday and do a bit of self care instead.
Here are 5 tips for getting through this day feeling good:
1. Have a lovely breakfast.
2. Avoid social media as much as you can.
3. Plan something you love to do for this evening.
4. Start something new but fun (so not a diet).
5. Do some job hunting!
We can help with that last one of course. So a fresh bright start may be just the ticket for making this a Monday worth enjoying.
